What is developmental editing?

Your book needs a solid foundation. Before you start worrying about typos, your novel must have good bones. Developmental editing focuses on the macro level of your novel: pacing, character arcs, structure, narrative, and theme. Together we will ensure your novels resonates with readers.

Hiring a developmental editor is a big decision. I will offer a sample developmental edit for the first 20 pages of your full-length novel or the first 10 pages of your novella for free.
What is included in the service?

Lengthy editorial letter: A thorough and highly detailed breakdown of your manuscript's strength and weaknesses, of what's working and what's not working, all from the perspective of an editor and fellow author who understands how difficult feedback can be to receive.

In-text comments: I will makes notes throughout your document. First I will read your book and give my initial reactions and thoughts, letting you know what may and may not work for readers. Then I will reread your novel and comment on how the bits and pieces of your novel fit into the whole.

Deep analysis: We will work on character arcs, plot, narrative, stakes, scene sequencing, and creating tension. By the time we are done, your novel's emotional impact will be maximized.

Zoom call: After I finish your novel's developmental edit and deliver it back to you, we will have a one-on-one session to discuss any questions you may have. Also available over DM if preferred.

The charge of a full developmental editing, complete with edit letter, in-text notes, and Zoom call, is $.01/word.

I will deliver my developmental edit to you within two weeks. Edits may be delivered in 1 week for an extra cost.
